MANILA, Philippines -- Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL; New Society Movement) candidate Joselito Cayetano filed an appeal on his disqualification as a senatorial candidate with the Commission on Elections late Monday.

Cayetano was declared a nuisance candidate by the Comelec’s first division on March 27 on a disqualification case filed by Genuine Opposition bet Alan Peter Cayetano.

A candidate is declared a nuisance if the purpose of filing one’s candidacy is to confuse voters and one is unable to prove the capability to launch a nationwide campaign.

Cayetano argued he had the capability to wage a nationwide campaign, citing his recent sortie in Roxas City and the placement of advertisements in newspapers.

He included photos, newspaper clippings, and campaign paraphernalia to support his argument.

He also maintained that he was not confusing voters despite having the same surname as Allan Peter Cayetano.

The appeal was submitted to the Comelec clerk at 5:30 pm Monday.
