CEBU CITY, Philippines - Cebu City acting Mayor Michael Rama said he did not want a repeat of Friday’s traffic tangle to mar the Sinulog festivities.

Motorists complained about the early start of rerouting of traffic at about 12 noon for the Sinulog 2009 launching parade which began at 3 p.m. after the solemn Mass at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño.

Motorists were also caught in heavy traffic in diversion roads.

Rama tasked Councilor Sylvan Jakosalem, committee on transportation chairman; Arnel Tancinco, City Traffic Operations Management executive director and Senior Superintendent Patrocinio Comendador Jr. to look into the cause of Friday’s commotion.

“Traffic management is common sense,” he said.

Comendador, Cebu City Police Office director, said adjustments would be implemented to the planned rerouting for the rest of the Sinulog activities.

He said it is still being studied as to what these adjustments are but one of their plans is to close streets for the rerouting a few minutes prior to the start of the activity and not hours before like what happened last Friday. /With Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
