World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes is set to train at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles before proceeding for his February 28 defense against Mexico's Erik Ramirez.

Michael Aldeguer, who manages Nietes, told the media yesterday that his ward is scheduled to depart for Los Angeles on February 7 to continue his training, then fly to Oaxaca, Mexico on February 23, just days before the scheduled second title defense for the Bacolod City-raised fighter.

“I've been training long and hard already for this title defense. I'm ready. I've got good sparring,” informed Nietes yesterday.

Among those who have been tapped to spar with Nietes are Yukka Gejon, Milan Milendo, Roli Gasca, and Marjohn Yap.

Nietes was among the select ALA fighters who faced the media yesterday, which also included Z “The Dream” Gorres, AJ 'Bazooka" Banal, Milan Milendo, and the comebacking Czar Amonsot, who has been cleared by doctors to fight again.

The fighters were accompanied by Michael Aldeguer, trainers Edito and Edmund Villamor, and Dennis Canete. Sportsman Antonio L. Aldeguer later joined the group.

Meanwhile, a huge card takes place in Tagbilaran City on January 31 as AJ 'Bazooka" Banal and Czar Amonsot co-headline a boxing extravaganza at the Island City Mall carpark.

Banal is set to tangle with Indonesian Nouldy Manakane, while Amonsot goes up against Zoel Fidal.
