Cebu City, Philippines – It has been eight years since Alona Bacolod was found dead inside a plastic bag in Dalaguete town, southern Cebu yet the Supreme Court has yet to pick the judge that will handle the parricide case filed against her husband.

Regional Trial Court Branch 9 Judge Geraldine Faith Econg voiced surprise when told about the 8th year anniversary of Bacolod's murder, saying she is still waiting on the high tribunal's decision on her motion to inhibit from the case against Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association divine master Ruben Ecleo Jr.

An anniversary Mass was held at the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) chapel on Bacolod's death anniversary.

Econg inhibited herself from handling Ecleo's parricide case but former Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Fortunato de Gracia overturned her request. She is the sixth judge to inhibit from handling the case against Ecleo.

The other RTC judges who inhibited from the case are Judges Galicano Arriesgado, Olegario Sarmiento, Generosa Labra, Anacleto Caminade and Ireneo Lee-Gako.

Bacolod was killed by strangulation in her house in Banawa, Cebu City. Her remains were found inside a plastic bag dumped in a ravine in Dalaguete town three days later.

The court granted bail on Ecleo after a doctor confirmed Ecleo's heart ailment. /Correspondent Ador Vincent Mayol
