BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Many jeepney drivers in Bacolod City began implementing on Monday their voluntary fare roll back by charging only P7 instead of the government-mandated P7.50.

However, a few drivers continued to charge P7.50, refusing to cooperate with the call of the United Negros Drivers Operators Center (UNDOC) and the Federation of Bacolod City Drivers Associations (FEBACDA) for a voluntary cut.

“The majority of the drivers have rolled back their fares but there are a few who have not. And we cannot compel them to do so since the move is voluntary,” Elizabeth Katalbas, FEBACDA president, said.

Katalbas said some drivers even began charging only P7 starting Friday following a series of gas and diesel price rollbacks.

Diesel now sells at P36 a liter, making it viable to implement the voluntary roll back, according to Katalbas.

UNDOC secretary general Jesse Ortega said they volunteered to roll back the fare due to the decline in gasoline and diesel prices.

But Ortega also urged oil firms to further reduce pump prices with the huge cut in fuel prices in the world market. /Inquirer
