FIVE policemen in a patrol car got more than they bargained for during an anti-gambling raid yesterday in sitio Kawayan, Sambag 2, Cebu City.

One suspect fired shots at the lawmen while others threw rocks.

SPO1 Ricardo Albotra, who lead the team of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau, said his team was on patrol about 6 p.m. when they saw people playing with two moli-moli machines and a video carrera machine in the area.

The police team stopped and tried to arrest the gamblers, who fled in different directions.

The policemen did not chase them but tried to confiscate the gambling machines when one of the fleeing gamblers pulled out a gun and fired at the policemen before running away.

Police pursued the gunman, who entered a house. Police tried to follow but the owner would not let them in.

At that point, stones started raining on the law enforcer, who had to retreat and call for reinforcements from the Fuente Police Station.

The reinforcements arrived a few minutes later, members of the Special Weapons and Tactics and Regional Mobile Group policemen.

The stones had stopped falling and police started searching for the culprits.

Police however failed to arrest the gunman and the those who stoned the team.

They instead arrested Benjamin Orales, 39, who was recognized as one of the men earlier playing the moli-moli machine.

Police said he was also caught with packet of white powder believed to be shabu in his pocket. Correspondent Justin A.K. Vestil
