To curb crime, a proposal was submitted to require motorcycles to have plate numbers displayed in the front and back of the vehicle.

At present, the law only requires a license plate in the rear fender.

Chief Supt. Ronald Roderos, police director for Central Visayas, said he made the suggestion.

Two resolutions were submitted by the sub-committee on traffic management and anti-carnapping of the National Association of Law Enforcement Coordinating Conference (NALECC).

This will help authorities as well as the public promptly identify motorbike riders.

A recent Camp Crame report identified Cebu City as having the higheest incidence of crimes carried out by offenders on motorbikes.

Another resolution of the subcommitte is to have the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) inspect motorcycles in the port area before they are transported to another place.

Motorbike owners would have to present the original certificate of registration and original receipt before the vehicles can be transported, according to the proposal.

The two resolutions will be passed to the mother unit of NALECC for approval.

“This is one way of preventing crimes where suspects are riding motorcycles,” Roderos said.
Motorcycle task forces were created in Cebu City and other parts of Cebu province in response to the reported trend of motorcycle-riding hoodlums.
