THE failed operation to arrest a drug suspect during a national derby inside the Talisay City Sports Complex was legal, a police official said.

It was a hot pursuit operation and the suspect, Crisostomo Llagumo is considered a fugitive after he escaped arrest on Nov. 4 , said Director Randy Pedroso, chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7).

“Llagumo is a fugitive and can be arrested anytime and anywhere,” said Pedroso yesterday.

Pedroso said the first escape happened on sitio Lakandula, barangay San Nicolas, when Llagumo eluded being arrested by PDEA agents during a buy-bust operation on Nov. 4.

PDEA agents allegedly confiscated a five gram pack of shabu worth at least P50,000 from Llagumo.

After that escape, PDEA agents intensified their efforts to find Llagumo until they received a report of Llagumo attending the derby in Talisay City.

PDEA agents, led by P03 Eugi Felimon Ruiz, failed to arrest Llagumo after his companions prevented them from arresting the suspect.

Pedroso said illegal drug charges would be filed against Llagumo on Monday.

He said he was also considering filing charges against those who helped Llagumo escape. Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
