CEBU CITY, Philippines - A driver was found dead inside his taxicab parked in front of the Redemptorist Church along Ramon Aboitiz Street, Barangay (village) Kamputhaw, Cebu City early Monday morning. Nicanor Panugaling, 28, of Pinamungahan town, was found by the church's security guard Jessie Balintag about 6 a.m. Panugaling had a gunshot wound in the head. His wallet was found at the rear passenger seat already empty of cash. The cab's meter reflected an amount of P750, indicating the driver had made rounds before he was killed. No witnesses have come forward yet. The security guard was patrolling the perimeter of the church when he noticed blood pooling underneath the Regional Taxi with plate number GWP-376. He immediately called the police. Senior Superintendent Patrocinio Comendador Jr., Cebu City police director, said they could not immediately conclude that robbery was the motive of the killing. “We have to evaluate the case because the taxicab was properly parked,” Comendador said in Cebuano. Gwendolyn, the slain taxi driver’s wife, said her husband had no known enemy. She said she strongly believed that robbery was the motive of the crime. |
