Jayjay Helterbrand went amok in the pivotal third period to steer the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings to a, 111-104 win over the Red Bull Barakos in Game Two of their PBA Fiesta Cup best-of-seven semifinal series last night at the Araneta Coliseum.
Helterbrand piled up a game-high 27 points, 19 of them in the third quarter that saw the Kings take control of the match en route to wresting a crucial 2-0 series edge.
Ginebra had a slim 55-49 lead at the intermission but Helterbrand scored seven in an 11-2 run, allowing the Kings to post a 66-51 headway.
Cyrus Baguio staged his own show and sparked an 18-6 blast for the Barakos, who moved within, 69-72.
With Red Bull rallying, Helterbrand again keyed another mighty run for Ginebra, scoring nine points in 11-5 tear as the Kings restored another double digit lead, 87-76.
Ginebra entered the fourth with a 94-83 lead and the final margin was the best Red Bull could do.
Helterbrand shot 6-for-12 from the three-point land and also handed out nine assists.
The win pushed Ginebra’s winning run to an all-time high of 10.
Helterbrand's backcourt partner Mark Caguioa also waxed hot as he contributed 24 points with ample support coming from import Chris Alexander, who tallied 20 points.
Free-agent acquisition and former University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancer Reed Friar Juntilla had his best output in the league with 14 points. |
