The Philippine College of Physicians – Central Visayas Chapter (PCP-7) conducted a forum for barangay (village) health workers (BHWs) at the Cebu Electric Cooperative auditorium in Toledo City on May 31.

The event was participated in by 198 BHWs from Toledo City and the neighboring towns of Balamban, Aloguinsan, Pinamungajan and Asturias.

Prior to the lecture, participants were given blood sugar and urinalysis screenings.

The topics included Tuberculosis by Dr. Sherwin Ignacio, Diarrhea by Dr. Evelyn Alesna, Hypertension by Dr. Celine Aquino, Diabetes mellitus by Dr. Consolacion Cutillar, Dengue Fever by Dr. Evelyn Alesna and Arthritis by Dr. Emerson Donaldo.

The group also organized a basic life support training for the BHWs, Association of Barangay Council presidents, traffic enforcers, policemen and fire marshall in the northern towns of Cordova, Consolacion, Liloan and Compostela.

The whole-day activity, which was co-sponsored by Provincial Board Member Victor Maambong, kicked off with a lecture, followed by the training facilitated by the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation. In the afternoon session, the 50 participants were required to demonstrate what they learned from the training.

The PCP-7 has been active in outreach programs throughout the Cebu province. Last year, the group conducted two forums to BHWs in the southern towns of Dalaguete (particularly in Barangay Mantalongon), Alcoy, Oslob and Boljoon.
