CEBU CITY, Philippines - The Association of Government Information Officers in the Central Visayas and the Philippine Information Agency spearheaded the government's “Serbisyo Muna” caravan held recently in Barangay Tomonoy, Moalboal town, Cebu.Highlights during the activity were the distribution of free medical and dental services as well as circumcision and information sharing to the residents. The whole-day activity was in line with the government's thrust to reach out to the needs of the Filipinos, especially those living in the far-flung areas.
Tomonoy barangay captain Marvin Dio welcomed the over 20 government agencies that brought medical and information services to his village.
Close to 600 people availed of medical and dental services rendered by the volunteers from the Naval Forces Central (Navforcen), the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Coast Guard, together with village health workers headed by municipal health officer, Dr. Prudencio Manubag. The Navforcen volunteers also performed circumcision on 95 boys with ages ranging from 4 to 12. The “Serbisyo Muna” caravan also sold National Food Authority (NFA) rice to the residents at P18.25 per kilo.
The NFA brought its rolling store to Tomonoy and sold four kilos of rice to each buyer. The Department of Agriculture (DA) led by Dr. Ted Dabucol also conducted free anti-rabies vaccination to almost 20 dogs. The DA also distributed free seedlings of mongo, squash, ampalaya and eggplant, among others. Some government information officers entertained queries of residents regarding their Social Security System, Pag-Ibig and Philhealth benefits and other matters involving the National Statistics Office. The next ‘Serbisyo Muna’ caravan will be held in San Fernando town, southern Cebu. |
