MANDAUE CITY, Philippines – Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes asked the City Council to realign the P5 million budget for the waste water treatment facility at the new public market and instead use it to buy security equipment. Cortes wanted to upgrade the security equipment such as purchasing a text alert system, eight security cameras and digital signages, which will flash police alerts. The text alert system would allow individuals to send text alarm messages to a base, which will verify the alarm and send it to different law enforcement agencies in the city. The security cameras, on the other hand, will have night vision capability and will be streamed through the Internet towards a computer base, which will record the videos captured by the system. Councilor Emiliano Rosal said that his committee on appropriation, budget, and finance will look into Cortes' request. Cortes said the P5 million budget would not be enough to fund the water treatment facility, which needs at least P10 million. /Reporter Dale G. Israel |
