CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebu City policemen were able to arrest four men and seized five handguns in the one-week gun ban ordered by Philippine National Police Director General Avelino Razon Jr.

The February 25 to March 3 ban was a precautionary measure amid reports of mass actions calling for the ouster of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Senior Superintendent Patrocinio Comendador Jr., Cebu City Police Office director, said the four men were apprehended in checkpoints.

But they were not involved in mass actions against the President.

They were considered suspects involved in petty crimes in the city.

Arrested in a checkpoint in barangay Pardo was Alberto Baloyos, 20, a member of the Crips Gang and a suspect in the killing of an architect in a robbery incident in Barangay (village) Inayawan last year.

Baloyos denied the charges.

A .38 caliber revolver was seized from Baloyos.

Jason Pitogo and Orlando Sumalpong of Lapu-Lapu City were arrested along the Cebu City North Reclamation Area. They were seen by members of the Mobile Patrol Group with a .45 caliber pistol in their possession.

Bernabe Cano-og of Talisay City was arrested in a checkpoint in Barangay Parian. Recovered in his possession was a .38 caliber revolver.

Police also found a .38 caliber revolver abandoned in Barangay Tejero. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
