TV host’s wife, sis face raps

November 08, 2009

QUEZON CITY, Philippines—The Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office recommended the filing of charges of estafa and four counts of violation of the anti-bouncing check law against Annalyn Manalo, wife of television host-comedian Jose Manalo.

At the same time, Assistant City Prosecutor Ronald Torrijos cleared Annalyn’s sister, Angeline Sy, of estafa charges although he approved the filing of one count of violating Batas Pambansa 22, or the anti-bouncing check law, against her.

No charges were recommended against Jose Manalo, one of the hosts of the noontime TV show, “Eat Bulaga.”

The Inquirer called up the comedian’s publicist but he refused to comment.

On the other hand, Malou Choa-Fagar, the producer of the noontime show, said, “Eat Bulaga will not issue a statement because it’s a personal case.”

The charges against Annalyn and her sister was based on a complaint filed by jeweler Violy Alipio who said the women bought more than P2 million worth of jewelry from her.

Alipio claimed that Annalyn paid for the jewelry with postdated checks which bounced and that despite her repeated demands, the latter failed to settle her obligations.
