MANILA, Philippines—The assistant district officer of the Land Transportation Office in Iligan City and his brother were shot dead by still unidentified men early Thursday morning, a police official said.
Chief Superintendent Danilo Empedrad, Northern Mindanao police director, said LTO official Ali Datumanong and his brother Akrab died while undergoing treatment at the Dr. Uy Hospital.
The two sustained several gunshot wounds when they were fired upon by two still unidentified suspects while they were on their way to work on board an Isuzu Crosswind past 8 a.m.
Immediately after the incident, a task group was organized by police to look into the incident.
Empedrad said police are looking into the possibility that the incident was connected to in-fighting in the local LTO office there.
"The possible motive is his rivalry with another aspirant to a position in LTO, Iligan City," Empedrad said, but declined to give names pending investigation on the incident.
