‘Santi’ death toll up to 27—NDCC

MANILA, Philippines – The death toll left by typhoon "Santi" climbed to 27, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said Wednesday.

In its latest situation report, the NDCC said that of the number of fatalities, 17 came from Region 4-A, nine from Rgion 5, and one from the National Capital Region (NCR).

Meanwhile, a total of 12 persons were reported injured from Regions 4-A and 5 while six persons are still missing, the NDCC said.

A total of 67,442 families or 316,437 persons were affected in 13 provinces, the NDCC added in its report.

The estimated cost of damage to infrastructure was reportedly P157.5 million, while damage to agriculture was pegged at P19.9 million.

The NDCC also reported P6.5 million worth of damages to private property.

Santi entered the Philippines Wednesday last week with winds of up to 140 kph. It weakened into a tropical storm before exiting through the South China Sea on Sunday.
