Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) yesterday arrested a man, who is allegedly a leader of a drug group operating in Cordova town, northern Cebu.
Estaneslao Yap, 35, was arrested inside his rest house in barangay Day-as where suspected illegal drugs were found.
Yap is considered as a level two drug pusher, who could dispose 200 grams of shabu a week, said Jessie Tabanao, PDEA-7 assistant public information officer.
PDEA-7 Director Randy Pedroso said Yap is a leader of a drug group which operates not only in Cordova town but also in Lapu-Lapu City.
PDEA-7 said it was the third time that the rest house of Yap in sitio Matab-ang was raided but he was not arrested in the first two raids.
A search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Soliver Peras was used during the raid.
PDEA-7 said Yap is also facing frustrated murder charges. He was asleep when the raiding team arrived at 5:30 a.m.
At least 102 packs of suspected shabu were found inside the air-conditioned rest house. Drug sniffing paraphernalia and P1,000 were also recovered.
Yap denied owning the confiscated drugs.
But Day-as barangay captain Macario Tajanlangit, who witnessed the raid, said the drugs were found inside a cabinet.
Members of the Philippine Navy assisted the PDEA-7 during the raid to provide security.
