J-Pop Anime singing contest deadline extended

April 03, 2009

MANILA, Philippines—Amateur singing groups with 3 to 10 members who are Filipinos may still join the J-Pop Anime Singing Competition, the Japan Information and Culture Center announced recently.

The JICC is extending the deadline for the submission of CD or cassette demo of two Japanese songs to May 20, 2009. However, it said, interested groups must still submit their application forms on or before April 20, 2009.

The contest does not put an age limit to those who will join the contest.

To register, submit the following:

1. Duly accomplished application form, which can be downloaded at www.ph.emb-japan.go.jp.

2. Tape or CD demo containing the participating group's rendition of two Japanese songs from J-Pop or anime.

3. A printout of the song lyrics.

A pre-screening will be held to choose 10 groups from among the registered groups to perform at the Grand Finale on July 25, 2009.

The top three winners will receive Japan Embassy certificates and free Nihongo lessons from the Nihongo Center Foundation.

The set-up for the participating groups can be flexible such as a capella, band/dance performance or music minus-ones, as long as at least one member of the group does the vocals.

Interested groups can register by mailing or hand-carrying their application forms and their CD or cassette tape demo and the printout of the song lyrics to:

Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) Library, Embassy of Japan, 2627 Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City

The contest is co-organized by the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation Manila with the cooperation of HERO TV, TOEI Philippines, Inc., Nihongo Center Foundation, MAX FM103.5, and Ayala Malls’ Market! Market! to foster deeper friendship and promote greater cultural exchange between Japan and the Philippines.
