Maricel Soriano, Chito Rońo team up in “T2”,

April 03, 2009

Worlds of man, “engkanto” collide in “T2”, to screen in five U.S. cities this April

REDWOOD CITY, CA, April 3, 2009 – There is no movie genre that award-winning actress Maricel Soriano can’t do and under the direction of the Philippines’ current master of horror cinema, Chito Rońo, Soriano’s acting prowess shines again in Star Cinema’s dark, eerie and suspenseful drama, T2 (which refers to unit 2 of Tenement, a cluster of old buildings in Manila).

“I was already excited while reading the script,” said Soriano. “Direk (Rońo) has a unique approach and fresh interpretation on the ‘engkanto’ story which I’m confident will grab the audience’s attention.”

In Philippine mythology, “engkanto” or “enchanted ones” are spirits who can assume human form and have the power to cause sickness and death in human beings. To the human eye, they appear tall, white and beautiful, but they are mysterious, unpredictable and capricious, and therefore dangerous.

Rońo, who recently helmed the blockbuster hits, Feng Shui and Sukob, described his recent works: “Feng Shui was inspired by the Filipinos’ interest in things that are supposed to give good luck. Sukob dealt with our strong belief in superstition. On the other hand, the story of T2 revolves around a child of an ‘engkanto’. However, this is not in the context of a fantasy world, but of the real world. T2 is a serious horror drama about an encounter between man and the ‘engkanto’.”

T2 is the story of Claire (Soriano) who is still reeling from the pain of the break-up of her childless marriage with Jeremy (Derek Ramsey). A social volunteer for a foundation that reunites children with their relatives, Claire decides to go to Samar to take her mind off her marital problems.

She brings a young boy to Samar but on her way back faced a blocked road, forcing her and her companions to spend the night in an orphanage where she meets Angeli (Mica dela Cruz). The nuns at the orphanage requested Claire to bring Angeli to Tenement 2 where Angeli’s folks live.

Strange and unexplainable occurrences take place when they arrived at Tenement 2, making Claire wonder about the real identity of Angeli. But can her growing motherly sympathy and affection for the girl help save the day for all of them?

T2 boasts of a powerhouse cast that includes Soriano, Ramsey, Dela Cruz, Eric Fructuoso, Camille Prats, Tetchie Agbayani, and the special participation of John Lloyd Cruz and Carmen Soo.

Starry Starry Store is bringing T2 this month to the U.S. “Our first two theatricals this year were comedy and romance. We want to offer an interesting variety to Filipino film fans. Our previous huge successes with Chito Rońo’s thriller films and Maricel’s own blockbuster with A Love Story make us confident about this stellar director-star team-up via T2,” said Kerwin Du, ABS-CBN International’s head of theatricals.
