Teachers invited to apply for Study Tour to the Philippines

If you are a K-12 Language Arts or Social Science teacher in the North Bay, you are invited to apply for a Fulbright Hays Group Study Tour of the Southern Philippines from July 10 to August 9. This is a month-long cultural immersion program in Mindanao, Southern Philippines that aims at helping teachers develop curriculum materials about the Philippines and integrate these materials in the California curriculum.

This Fulbright Hays Grant is awarded to North Bay International Studies Project (NBISP) at Sonoma State University (SSU) and its project co-directors, Associate Professor Leny Strobel (American Multicultural Studies) and Miriam Hutchins, Director of NBISP. The North Bay International Studies Project is a grant- funded, statewide subject- matter project that provides pedagogical and curriculum resources in both History/Social Science and International Studies to the University and K-12 educational community. It is one of the seven sites of the California International Studies Project (CISP) and a member of the Redwood Professional Development Consortium (RPDC).

The Fulbright Hays program includes study at Ateneo de Davao University with coursework developed for our American teachers, roundtrip travel, housing, per diem, and travel within the country. Tagalog language classes and pre-departure orientation will be held at Sonoma State University. Teachers can earn 4-units through SSU’s Extended Education.
