Forging new alliances and creating fresh opportunities were the cornerstone of hundreds Small & Medium Enterpreneurs, business experts and top government economic team on the Philippine Business Development Summit 2009 convention held last May 29-30, 2009, at AIM Conference Center Manila (ACCM), Makati City.
With the theme “Setting the Phase for Innovation and Enterpreneurship”, the delegates of mostly micro-medium business managers were finally convinced and optimistic to carry on the task of protecting their common interest for the socio-economic development of the nation.
Most vocal encouragement was coming from and enunciated by no less than the Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, Honorable Noli “Kabayan” De Castro during his keynote address on creating innovative economy through business incubation.
He was elated to see the pioneering convention of businessmen and notable personalities in nation’s economy but giving due acknowledgment to the SMEs who contributed principally the jobs and resources for livelihood to the Filipinos by noting that they were responsible for chipping-in 60% of national export the past year.
On the other hand, the keynote speakers representing giant business organizations in the country presented their papers adequately and full of authority which led to the proper management of day-to-day concerns of running small and medium companies.
Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Chairman and Philexport President Sergio Ortiz-Luiz, Jr. stressed the pivotal role of SMEs in the over-all performance of alleviating poverty among Filipinos observing that most manufacturing firms nationwide were the sector’s principal base which had been in the upward trend since 2006.
The conference’s array of leading business lecturers were prominent in the Philippine industry and key government policymakers that included PCCI President Edgardo Lacson, NEDA Deputy-Director General Margarita Songco, Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific Sec. Gen. Octavio Peralta, Technology Resource Center Director General Antonio Ortiz, Congressional Commission on Science, Technology & Engineering Exec. Director Gregory Tangonan, Commission on Information, Communication & Technology Director Patricia M. Abejo, UP Director for Computer Science Dr. Jaime DL Caro, GMB Franchising President Armando Bartolome, FINEX Chairman on SME & Cooperatives Napoleon Cabello, Inner Sun President Raju Mandhyan, Small Business Corp. President Benel Lagua, PDB SME Solutions President Adonis Yap, Salesman Centre’s Founder & President Jun Garing and Lloyd Luna Communications President Lloyd Luna.
The PBDS 2009 Top Enterpreneurs Awardees were given in honor of those Small and Medium Companies that had shown excellence, commitment and dedication on managing their business and creating innovative opportunities for their fellow Filipinos. They were Teodoro Ferrer of Generika Drugstore, Florante Cruz of BC Net, Inc & AHEAD Tutorial, Mercedez Mejia of Cagayan de Oro City- based SLERS, Inc. and Frank and Mary Grace A. Young of Cordillera Coffee.
The two-day event was organized by Philevents Management and Advertising Company with Ms. Grace Abliter as Project Director and Philippine League for Business Development Welfare, Inc. (Philbidev) headed by Mr. John Yam.
