MACY'S CELEBRATES CHINESE NEW YEAR

February 03, 2009

San Francisco, California –Macy's celebrates the Year of the Ox at Southwest Airlines' Chinese New Year festival and parade. On February 7, 2009, Macy's will be participating in the largest nighttime parade celebrating the Chinese New Year in the US. The parade will be televised on KTVU Fox 2 from 5:30-8:00pm.

"Macy’s is committed to events that highlight Chinese heritage and culture. It is with understanding and respect for the community that we are honored to be a part of this special occasion. We look forward to sharing and celebrating the Year of the Ox with the Chinese American community, " says Latonya Lawson, Vice President of Broadcast, New Media & Campaign Planning at Macy’s West.

This year, Macy’s float will be a true spectacle of art designed by Dave Thomas. The center of the float features a massive intricately carved piece made up of over 600 treasures found in Chinatown including cloisonné, stone carving, ancient relics, paintings, beautiful silks and embroidered fabrics from China’s Pearl River Delta. Macy’s truly keeps the spirit of the Parade theme alive with their “Chinatown Treasures” float.

Macy’s float illuminates the essence of Chinese culture and heritage and for that reason will host last year’s 2008 Miss Chinatown USA Queen and members of her court on the float. Macy’s Asian Affinity Resource Group (MAA) has and continues to be a proud supporter of the Chinese New Year festival and parade. MAA will walk in the parade route in front of the Macy’s float.

In addition, Macy's Union Square store will have a special treat for shoppers during the week of the parade. $10 off coupons to Macy’s will be distributed at the Community Fair on February 7 & 8 at the San Francisco Chinese Chamber of Commerce booth. Brochures with Chinese New Year event information are now available at the visitor center inside Macy's as well.

Macy's wishes you luck and prosperity in the Year of the Ox!
