Machine Readable Passport (MRP) Applications to be Processed INQUIRER.net
June 05, 2008
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco will have a booth each at the Pista sa Nayon in Vallejo on June 07, and at the Fiesta Filipina 2008 at the Civic Center in San Francisco on June 07 and 08. In these booths, the Consulate will accept applications for the new Machine Readable Philippine Passport (MRP).
The on-site processing facilities for the MRP at the Filipino American cultural events over the weekend is part of the on-going efforts of the Consulate General to facilitate the processing of applications for the MRP.
The MRP which was officially launched by all Philippine Foreign Service Posts in the US on June 02 requires all applicants to personally appear before a consular processing officer. It has also new requirements for the photographs. Since the MRP will be produced by a central facility in the Philippines, it will take six (6) weeks from date of application for an MRP to be issued. Details on the photo requirement may be obtained from this link: Download Photo Guidelines.
To facilitate the application for the new type of Philippine passport, the Consulate has intensified its outreach service to the communities under its jurisdiction. Part of this program is to provide on-site processing facilities for the MRP at gatherings of the Filipino American communities. This will allow holders of Philippine passports who may wish to renew it without going to San Francisco to file their applications on-site.
Additional guidelines on the MRP and on the participation of the Consulate General in Filipino community events are available from the Philippine Consulate General. Please call (415) 4336666 or email: sanfranciscopcg2004@yahoo.com.
