Answer charges, suspect in wife’s murder told

November 14, 2006

THE HUSBAND of slain Media G8way Corp. president Delia Gutierrez must face a Makati prosecutor in two weeks to answer parricide charges police filed against him in connection with her death last September 6.

The Makati City Prosecutor’s Office has set the preliminary hearings for the case on November 28 and December 5, investigating prosecutor Henry Salazar told the Inquirer Tuesday.

Salazar said he would send a subpoena to Ibarra Gutierrez, the victim’s husband and prime suspect in the brutal slay, ordering him to show up at the prosecutor’s office on the said dates.

“By procedure, he [respondent Gutierrez] has to personally appear because he has to subscribe to his counter-affidavit,” he added. Salazar, who received the records of the case on Monday afternoon, said he will also ask “all police officers responsible for the investigation” to appear in his office on the same dates.

On November 8, the Criminal Investigation Section of the Makati police filed parricide charges against Ibarra in the city prosecutor’s office for his “possible liability” in his wife’s death.

Based on the statement he gave to police, Ibarra -- editor in chief of Media G8way, a firm which publishes information technology magazines -- said he found his wife’s body inside the toilet of her office on the third floor of Eurovilla II Building in Legaspi Village, Makati.

Delia’s throat had been slashed twice while her body bore six stab wounds.

Police said they considered Ibarra a suspect after he said his wife had committed suicide, contrary to the autopsy report saying the victim could not have slashed her throat twice and stabbed herself several times.
