THE SANDIGANBAYAN special division has set for Wednesday the arraignment of Charlie “Atong” Ang on plunder charges for allegedly funneling to deposed president Joseph Estrada’s account P130 million in supposed kickbacks from tobacco excise tax and illegal gambling.
“Considering that on November 10, 2006, the NBI [National Bureau of Investigation] filed its return on the alias order of arrest of accused Charlie ‘Atong’ Ang…the clerk of court is hereby ordered to set the accused’s arraignment on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 9 a.m. Accordingly the NBI is hereby directed to bring accused Charlie ‘Atong’ Ang before the court on the said time and date,” the one-page resolution issued by the anti-graft court and signed by Ma. Teresa Pabulayan, executive clerk of court, said.
Sandiganbayan Sheriff Ed Urieta said the Sandiganbayan will also determine Wednesday if Ang will be detained at the NBI, where he is currently being held, or the Quezon City Jail.
