October 30, 2006
San Francisco, October 6, 2006 – Over a hundred colorful and intricately-made star lanterns are expected to participate in the 4th Annual Parol Lantern Festival and Parade on December 9 along Market Street in San Francisco and three of these lanterns will be selected for the Tala (Bright Star) Awards. $500 and two $100 awards are at stake for lanterns of exceptionally outstanding presentation and design, and for collective lantern and individual artist to be selected by a panel of five judges. This year’s celebration is especially meaningful because Filipino Americans are celebrating 100 years of Filipino migration to the United States. The parade starts at 5 pm at the corner of 6th and Mission and ends at Yerba Buena Gardens.
The Filipino American Development Foundation, with the BayArea Filipino Centennial Committee and the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco, invites interested social and civic groups, families and individuals to participate by forming stroll (walking) contingents, or in parol making activities, Workshops are held at the Bayanihan Community Center on Mission and in other Bay Area venues.
