MANILA, Philippines – A Quezon City court yesterday denied the petition for the issuance of a temporary restraining order filed by a graduating law student and Sigma Rho fraternity member, allowing administrative proceedings against him to proceed in connection with the death of alleged hazing victim Cris Anthony Mendez.
Quezon City RTC branch 220 Judge Jose G. Paneda said Juan Paolo Fajardo failed to show that he was “being prevented from completing his law course at the University of the Philippines College of Law,” thus, there was no basis to temporarily stop the ongoing hearings of the UP student disciplinary tribunal (SDT) on the alleged hazing incident.
The SDT had filed administrative charges against Fajardo and 13 other students and members of the Sigma Rho which Mendez allegedly joined as a neophyte.
